Leadership Team (Elders & Senior Staff)

God has greatly blessed Cornerstone with many gifted, godly and grace-filled leaders and staff. Our role is to lead and equip God’s people for works of service, to build up the church.

John Russell, Lead Minister
John Russell

John Russell
(Lead Minister & Elder)

John originally joined Cornerstone as a student, having moved to Nottingham to study Politics at university. Following a number of years working in local government, John joined the staff team in 2007, becoming Lead Minister in 2015. He has responsibility for leading the church and our leadership team. John is married to Catherine and they have a young family.

Colin Webster

Colin Webster
(Minister & Elder)

Colin joined the Cornerstone team as one of the ministers in 1996 following 3 years training at Moorlands Bible College. In addition to preaching and pastoring his main areas of responsibility are in encouraging the church in its evangelism and overseeing the worship team. He has led worship at various conferences such as Word Alive and the Keswick Convention and has written several worship songs.

Roo Miller

Roo Miller
(Minister & Elder)

Roo grew up in Nottingham, but first came to Cornerstone when he returned to the city with his wife, Esther, in 2010. After a few years as a Chemistry teacher, Roo joined the Cornerstone staff as Minister in Training in 2015, and became a minister in 2019. He oversees the Student Ministry in the church and is training for church leadership through the Acts 29 Oak Hill Academy. Roo and Esther live in Chilwell and have three children.

Phil Moore

(Director of Ministry)

Phil is from Belfast, and first came to Cornerstone as a student in 2007. After a few years on the team at Cornerstone as an Intern, Phil served as the Assistant Minister of Lutterworth Church. Returning to Cornerstone in 2017, Phil leads the Youth and Music ministries and is actively involved in writing songs and leading worship at various conferences around the country. Phil is married to Gill and they have two children

Amanda Smart Gosran

Amanda is responsible for steering our pastoral co-ordination and other leadership responsibilites with church. She also plays a key role in the support and development of ministries of mercy that are led by Cornerstone, and those that are led by other churches and projects in Nottingham. Amanda leads a Connect Group with her husband, Tirin, and has three sons.

Kathryn Jackson

Kathryn joined the team in 2014 having worked as a History teacher for eleven years. Kathryn oversees our women's and families ministries at Cornerstone. She is married to Jonathan (better known as JJ) and has two primary-aged children, Hattie and Seb.

Spencer Hampton

Spencer Hampton
(Director of Operations)

Spencer has been part of the staff team since 2003, and leads the management of our facilities, finances and operations. He is married to Liz, and they have two children, Joseph and Bethany.

Sam Payne

Sam Payne
(Minister in Training)

Sam and his wife Kat arrived in Nottingham as students in 2011 and moved from Cornerstone to Redeemer when it was planted in 2017. Sam graduated in Mathematics and spent 4 years working in a large accountancy firm before starting as a Minister in Training at Redeemer in 2019. As part of his role he will be helping to oversee the Student Ministry at Cornerstone, and training for church leadership through Crosslands..

Katrina Harper

(Children's Ministry Worker)

Katrina first came to Cornerstone when she was a student in Nottingham studying Theology and then served as the Children's Intern for two years. Having worked as a Children and Families worker elsewhere for the last 5 years, Katrina is back to oversee the leading of our children's ministry.

Paul Couchman

(Elder)

Paul and his wife Katie have been members of Cornerstone since moving to Nottingham in 2000. They have two teenage children. Paul has been an elder on the leadership team since 2009.

Bill Rettie

Bill Rettie
(Elder)

Bill served as a missionary in Africa doing agricultural development and outreach ministry. He came to Nottingham in 2003 but still maintains an active involvement in ministry in Kenya. At Cornerstone he supports our overseas workers through the Mission Coordinating Group and, together with his wife Rosemary, is involved in Connect Group leadership.

David Devadason

David Devadason
(Elder)

David has been attending Cornerstone since moving to the city in 2013. He enjoys working with Internationals, leads a Connect Group and became an elder in 2017. He is a consultant at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Richard Lewis

Richard Lewis
(Elder)

Richard has been a member of Cornerstone since 1986 and his wife Carolyn became a member after they married in 1988. Their two children are young adults. Richard and Carolyn lead a Connect Group together and Richard has been an elder on the leadership team since 1995.

Mark Collins

Mark Collins
(Elder)

Mark has been part of Cornerstone since coming to Nottingham as a student in 1998. He is married to Claire, and has two primary school aged children. He works in Nottingham as a Civil Engineer.

Joff Gribbin

Joff Gribbin
(Elder)

Joff and Clare first came to Cornerstone when they were students and thirty years on they are still here! They have three children and lead the mission coordinating group which oversees the support which the church gives to our overseas workers.

Sara Girling

Sara Girling
(Pastoral Ministry Worker)

Sara and her husband Keith moved to Nottingham in 1991 and have been members at Cornerstone since then. They have 3 grown up children. Sara has a longstanding passion for pastoral care. After taking early retirement from a career as a health Visitor 3 years ago, Sara has joined the staff team to help co-ordinate pastoral care in our church family with Amanda and Colin.

Sarah Daniels

Sarah Daniels
(Event Operations Manager)

Sarah is originally from Derby and has a daughter named Lydia. She studied Tourism Management in Leeds and has worked in hospitality and events for a number of years. She joined the Cornerstone team in 2013 to work in office administration and is now the Event Operations Manager.

Charlie Tyrrell

Charlie Tyrrell
(Project Operations Manager)

Charlie is originally from Leeds and came to Nottingham in 2002 as a student, and qualified as a pharmacist in 2008. She joined the Cornerstone staff in 2013 supporting the leadership team in a variety of different ways as Project Operations Manager. Charlie is married to Ed and they have two children.

Katie Grundy

(Administration Manager)

Katie has been at Cornerstone since she came to Nottingham as a student. She worked as a Pharmacist before having a few years at home with her young children. She now works as our Administration Manager. Katie is married to Jeremy and they have two children.

Mike Shouler

Mike Shouler
(Accounts Assistant)

Mike is a retired accountant who has been working for Cornerstone for several years as our part time accounts assistant. He is married to Fi who is vicar of two churches in the Selston area of Nottinghamshire.

David Upton

David Upton
(Staff Worker)

David grew up in Leicester and studied History in London. He then taught History as a secondary school teacher in South London. David is married to Ruth and they moved to Nottingham to join Cornerstone. David is a huge Arsenal fan and is looking forward to topping the Cornerstone Church Fantasy Football League. He loves reading, coffee and time spent with Ruth!

Miriam Callow

Miriam Callow
(Intern)

Miriam moved to Nottingham in 2018 as a student and has been part of Cornerstone’s church family since then. This year she has joined the staff team to serve as the children’s intern and is so looking forward to working with the team and getting to know her church family more. There are many things that bring Miriam joy, but some of her favourites include time spent with her sister and her family (in Madrid!), reading with a nice cup of well brewed tea, playing piano and keenly collecting cactuses and plants!

Saskia Quirk

Saskia Quirk

Saskia grew up on the Isle of Lewis before moving to Coventry to study Popular Music & Worship at Nexus ICA. Saskia and her husband Shaun moved to Nottingham to join Cornerstone Church. She enjoys singing, cycling, games nights and a good pun (the cheesier the better)!

Annie Hawkins

Annie Hawkins
(Voluntary Associate)

Alex and I joined Cornerstone when we moved to Nottingham from Liverpool area. I enjoy Walking and cycling in the countryside with Alex. I also enjoy running. We really like hosting international students and visiting places with them. I love singing and like to read Christian autobiography.

Liz Middleton

Liz Middleton
(Friends International)

Cornerstone supports Liz's work with Friends International amongst international students. Previously for several years Liz lived in central China, initially teaching English & studying Mandarin, and then working with abandoned children. In her spare time Liz enjoys relaxing walks in the countryside, playing the piano and meeting up with family & friends.
