God has greatly blessed Cornerstone with many gifted, godly and grace-filled leaders and staff. Our role is to lead and equip God’s people for works of service, to build up the church.
John Russell (Lead Minister & Elder)
John originally joined Cornerstone as a student, having moved to Nottingham to study Politics at university. Following a number of years working in local government, John joined the staff team in 2007, becoming Lead Minister in 2015. He has responsibility for leading the church and our leadership team. John is married to Catherine and they have a young family.
Colin Webster (Minister & Elder)
Colin joined the Cornerstone team as one of the ministers in 1996 following 3 years training at Moorlands Bible College. In addition to preaching and pastoring his main areas of responsibility are in encouraging the church in its evangelism and overseeing the worship team. He has led worship at various conferences such as Word Alive and the Keswick Convention and has written several worship songs.
Phil Moore (Director of Ministry)
Phil is from Belfast, and first came to Cornerstone as a student in 2007. After a few years on the team at Cornerstone as an Intern, Phil served as the Assistant Minister of Lutterworth Church. Returning to Cornerstone in 2017, Phil leads the Youth and Music ministries and is actively involved in writing songs and leading worship at various conferences around the country. Phil is married to Gill and they have two children
Spencer Hampton (Director of Operations)
Spencer has been part of the staff team since 2003, and leads the management of our facilities, finances and operations. He is married to Liz, and they have two children, Joseph and Bethany.
Amanda Smart-Gosrani (Director of Ministry)
Prior to joining the staff team in 2006, Amanda spent fourteen years teaching English and Drama, then five years with the Trent Vineyard Arches Project. Amanda oversees the team leading our children's ministry and also has other leadership responsibilities within the church. Amanda leads a Connect Group with her husband, Tirin, and has three sons.
Kathryn Jackson (Director of Ministry)
Kathryn joined the team in 2014 having worked as a History teacher for eleven years. Kathryn oversees our women's and families ministries at Cornerstone. She is married to Jonathan (better known as JJ) and has two primary-aged children, Hattie and Seb.
Roo Miller (Minister in Training)
Roo grew up in Nottingham, but first came to Cornerstone when he returned to the city with his wife, Esther, in 2010. After a few years as a Chemistry teacher, Roo joined the Cornerstone staff as Minister in Training in 2015. He oversees the Student Ministry in the church and is training for church leadership through the Acts 29 Oak Hill Academy. Roo and Esther live in Chilwell and have three children.
Sam Payne (Minister in Training)
Sam and his wife Kat arrived in Nottingham as students in 2011 and moved from Cornerstone to Redeemer when it was planted in 2017. Sam graduated in Mathematics and spent 4 years working in a large accountancy firm before starting as a Minister in Training at Redeemer in 2019. As part of his role he will be helping to oversee the Student Ministry at Cornerstone, and training for church leadership through Crosslands..
Joff Gribbin (Elder)
Joff and Clare first came to Cornerstone when they were students and thirty years on they are still here! They have three children and lead the mission coordinating group which oversees the support which the church gives to our overseas workers.
Paul Couchman (Elder)
Paul and his wife Katie have been members of Cornerstone since moving to Nottingham in 2000. They have two teenage children. Paul has been an elder on the leadership team since 2009.
Bill Rettie (Elder)
Bill served as a missionary in Africa doing agricultural development and outreach ministry. He came to Nottingham in 2003 but still maintains an active involvement in ministry in Kenya. At Cornerstone he supports our overseas workers through the Mission Coordinating Group and, together with his wife Rosemary, is involved in Connect Group leadership.
David Devadason (Elder)
David has been attending Cornerstone since moving to the city in 2013. He enjoys working with Internationals, leads a Connect Group and became an elder in 2017. He is a consultant at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham.
Richard Lewis (Elder)
Richard has been a member of Cornerstone since 1986 and his wife Carolyn became a member after they married in 1988. Their two children are young adults. Richard and Carolyn lead a Connect Group together and Richard has been an elder on the leadership team since 1995.
Mark Collins (Elder)
Mark has been part of Cornerstone since coming to Nottingham as a student in 1998. He is married to Claire, and has two primary school aged children. He works in Nottingham as a Civil Engineer.
Liz Middleton (Friends International)
Cornerstone supports Liz's work with Friends International amongst international students. Previously for several years Liz lived in central China, initially teaching English & studying Mandarin, and then working with abandoned children. In her spare time Liz enjoys relaxing walks in the countryside, playing the piano and meeting up with family & friends.
Mike Shouler (Accounts Assistant)
Mike is a retired accountant who has been working for Cornerstone for several years as our part time accounts assistant. He is married to Fi who is vicar of two churches in the Selston area of Nottinghamshire.
Charlie Tyrrell (Systems Manager)
Charlie is originally from Leeds and came to Nottingham in 2002 as a student, and qualified as a pharmacist in 2008. She joined the Cornerstone staff in 2013 supporting the leadership team in a variety of different ways. Charlie is married to Ed and they have two children.
Sarah Daniels (Events Manager)
Sarah is originally from Derby and has a daughter named Lydia. She studied Tourism Management in Leeds and has worked in hospitality and events for a number of years. She joined the Cornerstone team in 2013 to work in office administration and is now the Events Manager.
Katie Grundy (Office Administrator)
Katie has been at Cornerstone since she came to Nottingham as a student. She worked as a Pharmacist before having a few years at home with her young children. She now works as our Office Administrator. Katie is married to Jeremy and they have two children.
Heather Sharp (Intern)
Heather grew up in North Yorkshire and came to Nottingham to study music. She started coming to Cornerstone as a student and joined the Cornerstone staff team in 2018, primarily as the children's intern. Outside of church she enjoys sport and exercise, but particularly loves hockey.
Adam Heaton (Intern)
Adam came to Nottingham from Lancashire to study Music, and after three years at Cornerstone while studying is continuing as the student Intern. He enjoys the piano, his bike, a good misplaced apostrophe, and books by Tolkien and CS Lewis.
Sally Jackman (Intern)
Sally grew up in London, Essex and Nottingham. Having studied music and theology at university, she came back to Nottingham and worked in a solicitor's firm for a year and then joined the Cornerstone staff team in 2019 as the youth and music Intern. In her spare time, Sally will be relaxing with friends, playing music and almost always laughing loudly.
Sara Girling (Voluntary Associate)
Sara and her husband Keith moved to Nottingham in 1991 and have been members at Cornerstone since then. They have 3 grown up children. Sara has just retired after working for 26 years as a health visitor and has joined the team as a voluntary associate this year to develop her longstanding passion for pastoral care.
