God has greatly blessed Cornerstone with many gifted, godly and grace-filled leaders and staff. Our role is to lead and equip God’s people for works of service, to build up the church.
John Russell (Lead Minister & Elder)
John originally joined Cornerstone as a student, having moved to Nottingham to study Politics at university. Following a number of years working in local government, John joined the staff team in 2007, becoming Lead Minister in 2015. He has responsibility for leading the church and our leadership team. John is married to Catherine and they have a young family.
Colin Webster (Minister & Elder)
Colin joined the Cornerstone team as one of the ministers in 1996 following 3 years training at Moorlands Bible College. In addition to preaching and pastoring his main areas of responsibility are in encouraging the church in its evangelism and overseeing the worship team. He has led worship at various conferences such as Word Alive and the Keswick Convention and has written several worship songs.
Pete Brown (Minister & Elder)
Pete joined the staff team at Cornerstone in 2001. He is passionate about preaching, making disciples and young people. He shares the preaching ministry of the Church with John, oversees the youth work, leads a large Scripture Union Holiday called ka’zoo and loves all things technology and design. Pete is married to Charlie who teaches piano.
Spencer Hampton (Director of Operations)
Spencer has been part of the staff team since 2003, and leads the management of our facilities, finances and operations. He is married to Liz, and they have two children, Joseph and Bethany.
Amanda Smart-Gosrani (Director of Ministry)
Prior to joining the staff team in 2006, Amanda spent fourteen years teaching English and Drama, then five years with the Trent Vineyard Arches Project. Amanda oversees the team leading our children's ministry and also has other leadership responsibilities within the church. Amanda leads a Connect Group with her husband, Tirin, and has three sons.
Kathryn Jackson (Families Ministry Worker)
Kathryn taught History for 11 years before joining the team as the Families Ministry Worker here at Cornerstone. Kathryn is married to Jonathan (better known as JJ) and has two small children.
Roo Miller (Minister in Training)
Roo grew up in Nottingham, but first came to Cornerstone when he returned to the city with his wife, Esther, in 2010. After a few years as a Chemistry teacher, Roo joined the Cornerstone staff as Minister in Training in 2015. He oversees the Student Ministry in the church and is training for church leadership through the Acts 29 Oak Hill Academy. Roo and Esther live in Chilwell and have two children, Aoife and Hamish.
Phil Moore (Director of Ministry)
Phil is from Belfast, and first came to Cornerstone as a student in 2007. After a few years on the team at Cornerstone as an Intern, Phil served as the Assistant Minister of Lutterworth Church. Returning to Cornerstone in 2017, Phil leads the Youth and Music ministries and is actively involved in writing songs and leading worship at various conferences around the country. Phil is married to Gill and they have one son called Elijah.
Joff Gribbin (Elder)
Joff and Clare first came to Cornerstone when they were students and thirty years on they are still here! They have three children and lead the mission coordinating group which oversees the support which the church gives to our overseas workers.
Paul Couchman (Elder)
Paul and his wife Katie have been members of Cornerstone since moving to Nottingham in 2000. They have two teenage children. Paul has been an elder on the leadership team since 2009.
Bill Rettie (Elder)
Bill served as a missionary in Africa doing agricultural development and outreach ministry. He came to Nottingham in 2003 but still maintains an active involvement in ministry in Kenya. At Cornerstone he supports our overseas workers through the Mission Coordinating Group and, together with his wife Rosemary, is involved in house group leadership.
Jonny Graham (Elder)
Jonny has been part of Cornerstone Church since arriving as a student in 2002, and became an Elder in 2015. He works as a GP and leads a Connect Group with his wife, Shalini. Jonny also leads one of our Connect Group clusters. Jonny & Shalini have a young son, Josiah, and they live in Beeston.
Richard Lewis (Elder)
Richard has been a member of Cornerstone since 1986 and his wife Carolyn became a member after they married in 1988. Their two children are young adults. Richard and Carolyn lead a Connect Group together and Richard has been an elder on the leadership team since 1995.
Simon Lister (Elder)
Simon first came to Cornerstone in 2006 as a student and has stayed since then. He later married Claire and they have been involved as members of Cornerstone through work amongst international students, supporting the overseas workers and children's ministry.
Mark Collins (Elder)
Mark has been part of Cornerstone since coming to Nottingham as a student in 1998. He is married to Claire, and has two primary school aged children. He works in Nottingham as a Civil Engineer.
David Devadason (Elder)
David has been attending Cornerstone since moving to the city in 2013. He enjoys working with Internationals, leads a Connect Group and became an elder in 2017. He is a consultant at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham
Liz Middleton (Friends International)
Cornerstone supports Liz’s work with Friends International amongst international students. Previously for several years Liz lived in central China, initially teaching English & studying Mandarin, and then working with abandoned children. In her spare time Liz enjoys relaxing walks in the countryside, playing the piano and meeting up with family & friends.
Mike Shouler (Accounts Assistant)
Mike is a retired accountant who has been working for Cornerstone for several years as our part time accounts assistant. He is married to Fi who is vicar of two churches in the Selston area of Nottinghamshire.
Charlie Tyrrell (Systems Manager)
Charlie is originally from Leeds and came to Nottingham in 2002 as a student, and qualified as a pharmacist in 2008. She joined the Cornerstone staff in 2013 supporting the leadership team in a variety of different ways. Charlie is married to Ed and they have two children, Zara and Ethan.
Sarah Daniels (Events Manager)
Sarah is originally from Derby and has a daughter named Lydia. She studied Tourism Management in Leeds and has worked in hospitality and events for a number of years. She joined the Cornerstone team in 2013 to work in office administration and is now the Events Manager.
Ed Slipper (Intern)
Ed grew up in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, and came to Nottingham in 2014 to study Mechanical Engineering. Graduating in 2017, he then joined the Cornerstone staff team as an Intern, focusing on student work. When not in the office, he loves getting lost around Nottinghamshire on his bike, playing hockey and thinking about new inventions that will probably never work.
Ben Horrex (Intern)
Having grown up in Suffolk, Ben studied History and Politics at The University of Nottingham. In his spare time, Ben works as a Street Pastor Night Leader, reads two books per week and laughs a lot. Prior to Cornerstone, Ben worked for theatres, the BBC, an ambulance service and did things that make bizarre icebreaker facts. Ben works with youth, primarily teaching our 15-18s group.
Charlotte Bryant (Intern)
Charlotte joined the staff team at Cornerstone as an intern, working primarily with the 0-11 year olds. She loves seeing children begin to understand the beauty of Jesus and is gradually learning to enjoy performing actions to kids’ songs. Charlotte grew up in Romford, on the border of East London and Essex and moved to Nottingham in 2014 to study Maths at university.
Sara Girling (Voluntary Associate)
Sara and her husband Keith moved to Nottingham in 1991 and have been members at Cornerstone since then. They have 3 grown up children. Sara has just retired after working for 26 years as a health visitor and has joined the team as a voluntary associate this year to develop her longstanding passion for pastoral care.
